The Jesus Boat Shop
carries anointing oil for anointing of the sick, for consecration, dedication,
worship, hospitality, and prayer. Our scented oils include fragrances mentioned
in Scripture, both the Old and New Testament: frankincense, myrrh, cinnamon,
hyssop, cassia, spikenard, Rose of Sharon, and Lily of the Valley. All our
anointing oils contain virgin olive oil and are made in Israel.
To be “anointed” means to be set apart,
consecrated, made holy, dedicated to serve God. Both the Hebrew term,
Messiah, and the Greek word, Christ, mean “anointed”. Jesus Christ, or in
Hebrew--Yeshua haMashiach, is the Anointed One.
The Bible records numerous instances of anointing
with oil. God commanded Moses to create a sacred anointing oil with myrrh,
cinnamon, fragrant cane (calamus), cassia, and olive oil (Exodus
30:22-33). Moses used this oil to anoint and consecrate the Tabernacle and
all its articles, as well as the High Priest Aaron and his sons. Ruth
anointed herself with oil before meeting with Boaz (Ruth 3:3). The Magi
brought frankincense and myrrh as gifts for the Messiah. (Matt. 2:11). Jesus
was anointed with oil of spikenard (Matt. 26:6-13; Mark 14:3-9; John 12:3-5).
James instructs the elders of the early church to pray over those who are sick
and anoint them with oil (James 5:14).
Biblical anointing oils available from the Jesus
Boat Shop include:
Frankincense:
Anointing oil with incense (frankincense) was burned with the grain offering,
“a sweet aroma to the Lord” (Lev. 2:1). Jesus was given a gift of frankincense
(Matt. 2:11). Incense (frankincense) is associated with the prayers of
the saints (Rev. 8:3).
Myrrh:
Song of Solomon refers to the Bridegroom as perfumed with frankincense and
myrrh (Song 3:6). Jesus received a gift of myrrh (Matt. 2:11).
Spikenard:
Mary of Bethany anointed Jesus with expensive perfumed oil--nard, or spikenard
(Matt. 26:6-13; Mark 14:3-9; John 12:3-5).
Cinnamon:
Cinnamon is mentioned, along with spikenard, frankincense, and myrrh as a
fragrance associated with the Bride in Song of Solomon (4:12-14). It was one of
the main ingredients in the anointing oil used in the Tabernacle. This scent is
found in the Light of Jerusalem anointing oil.
Cassia:
One of the main ingredients in the anointing oil created for the Tabernacle
(Exod. 30:24); the Messiah’s robes will be fragrant with cassia (Psalm 45:7-8).
This scent is available in the Light of Jerusalem anointing oil salve/cream.
Hyssop:
Used for cleansing (Psalm 51:7)
Rose
of Sharon: Song of Solomon 2:1
Lily
of the Valley: Song of Solomon 2:1
Anointing oils are used throughout Scripture for
healing of the sick, as a means of hospitality (Psalm 23:5; Luke 7:46), and to
anoint those set apart or consecrated for service to God. The Jesus Boat
Shop offers anointing oils as individual scents, as gift boxes of scented oil
from the Holy Land, and as gift sets containing anointing oil, earth from
Jerusalem or Bethlehem, and holy water from the Jordan River. Anointing
oils are a unique gift for Christian pastors, Messianic rabbis, Bible study
teachers, friends, family, even yourself.
