Bring the beauty of hand painted Armenian ceramic pottery to your
home or office. Our authentic Armenian pottery comes from Jerusalem, the only
place in the world where this unique decorative ceramic style is still being
produced.
Armenian Christians first emigrated to the Holy
Land around 300 AD, making them the first foreign Christians to establish a
community there. Today, the Armenian Quarter covers one sixth of the area
inside the walls of the Old City of Jerusalem. The Armenian community is known
for its artistic innovations, including the first pottery works established in
1919 to create the ceramic tiles found in churches, public and private
buildings, and gardens throughout Israel.
Devout Christians, they adapted their distinctive
style of decorative ceramics from the Armenian style of illuminating
manuscripts. This method of hand painting has changed little over the
years.
Armenian ceramics were highly prized in Jerusalem.
In the 12th century Cathedral of St. James in Jerusalem’s Armenian Quarter,
you’ll find geometric and floral designs created with over 8,000 blue and white
square tiles. Another 8,000 tiles are found in Jerusalem’s various
churches and buildings. Armenian pottery is found in Bethlehem’s Church of
the Nativity and in museums around the world, including the British
Museum.
Genuine, hand-painted Armenian ceramics are still
prized as art treasures. Authentic Armenian pottery makes a beautiful
decorative gift for Christian or Jewish friends, family, pastors, rabbis, or
anyone who has a love for the Holy Land.
The Jesus
Boat Shop offers four distinctive Armenian pottery plates: the “Our
Father” plate, containing the sacred words of the Lord’s Prayer; the “Eden”
plate, illuminated with birds and flowers; the “Shalom”
plate decorated with Hebrew script and dove of peace; and the “Spring
Blossom” plate with its vibrant floral design.
Celebrate the Passover holiday with beautiful
Armenian pottery. The 7
piece Passover set includes a plate with the word Pesach in Hebrew and 6 bowls
with the names of the traditional seder foods in both Hebrew and English. The
ceramic matza (matzah, matzo or matzoh) tray adds beauty to the Passover meal.
The Shabbat (Sabbath) set is a lovely way to
welcome Shabbat into your home. Conclude the Sabbath with a handsome ceramic Havdalah
set. The ceramic
Kiddush set lends beauty and meaning to any holiday.
The Miracle of the Loaves
and Fishes bowl captures the essence of the famous mosaic found in the
Church of the Multiplication in Tabgha in the Galilee. This design is also
available as a chalice or a ceramic
mug.
These lovely souvenirs of the Holy Land make
wonderful gifts or accessories for home decor: a ceramic
candle holder, a decorative
tile inspired by the Old City of Jerusalem, and a decorative tile
or mug
graced with the word Shalom in Hebrew and English.
